In collaboration with The Pudding, we took a deep dive on the words people have been looking up online over the past year—what they mean, and what they REALLY mean (if you know what I mean). Every millisecond people turn to Google to find information, look up an answer or ask for the definitions of words. But it’s not just words we’re trying to define—it’s about getting a grip on the world around us (I know, very grand). Looking at the data can demonstrate the proliferation of language and specific terms throughout culture, but it can also provide a fascinating snapshot of current concerns, social trends, how we change language, and how it changes us.
